The Central Government on Thursday directed the States and Union Territories to appoint State Commissioners for the welfare of the differently-abled and to constitute the State Advisory Board at the earliest. At the same time, reports have also been called for the steps taken by the states for the welfare of the disabled during the coronavirus epidemic.

Instructions are given by the center, as well as reports of steps taken so far

These instructions were given to the states during the fourth meeting of the Central Disability Advisory Board held under the chairmanship of Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thawarchand Gehlot. In the meeting, states were advised to create an online mechanism to handle the data related to vacancies reserved for differently-abled people. Also, a special recruitment drive was directed to fill the backlog vacancies.

The board asked all the central ministries and departments to take effective steps to implement the Sugam Bharat Abhiyan in mission mode. Also, in consultation with the Chief Commissioner appointed for the differently-abled persons within six months, they were asked to submit to the Department of Disability Empowerment, fixing the accessible standards related to their respective areas so that its notification can be issued.
