Nivar cyclone: 3 killed, crops in 29,752 hectares damaged in AP

Vijayawada, Nov 27 (UNI) Three persons were killed and crops in 29,752 hectares damaged as the Nivar Cyclone battered Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra Pradesh districts.
Andhra Pradesh Agriculture minister K Kannababu told media here on Friday that three persons were killed due to heavy rains and floods at various places in Rayalaseema districts.
Paddy crop damaged in 16,290 hectares, black gram in 7362 hectares, Cotton in 3,571 hectares and other crops were damaged in 2,529 hectares due to heavy rain and floods in Chittoor, Nellore, Kadapa, Prakasam, Guntur, Krishna, West Godavari and East Godavari districts as per the information received till Thursday, he said.
The Minister informed that 288.8 mm rainfall was recorded between November 23 and 26 in Rayalaseema districts.
He said that 664 houses were marooned in flood water and 673 houses were damaged.
Mr Kannababu informed that 10,000 people were shifted to 147 relief centres.
He said that Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy directed the officials to complete the enumeration of damage of crops by December 15 and extend compensation by December 30.
He also directed to supply seeds on 80 per cent subsidy to the farmers in the affected areas.
Sources said that the Nivar Cyclonic Storm affected 10 districts in the state. However, Chittoor, Nellore, Kadapa and Prakasam districts affected badly.
The farmers bore the brunt due to the cyclone as paddy farmers suffered badly as the ready to be harvested crop was inundated in rain water in lakhs of acres in Rayalaseema and Coastal AP districts.
The vehicular traffic between Nellore and Chennai was disrupted as the Kaivalya river water overflowed on the National Highway, resulting in hundreds of vehicles stranded on either side of the road.
The flood water from Swarnamukhi river inundated many residential localities in Nellore district.
The vehicular traffic on the Addanki-Mundlamari, Markapur-Podili, Kadiri-Rayachoti highways were disrupted as flood water overflowed on roads.
Road connectivity disrupted to many villages due to overflowing of water on roads.
The NDRF and SDRF personnel have rescued people who were stuck in flood water in Chittoor district. Rain accompanied by winds occurred in the districts.
