SEC emphasises on role of election observers

Itanagar, Nov 27 (UNI) Emphasising on the role of the observers, State Election Commissioner (SEC) Hage Kojeen on Friday said observers are the eyes and ears of the Election Commission and efforts must be made to create a level playing field.
Kojeen said this while addressing the meeting of all election observers appointed for the forthcoming Panchayat and Municipal elections in Arunachal Pradesh, here on Friday.
“The basic mandate of the State Election Commission has been to conduct local body elections in a free, fair and peaceful manner. Election observers are expected to provide direct inputs to the Commission regarding proper implementation of various election processes including MCC,” the SEC said.
He also advised the observers to display proper and dignified conduct of themselves before the eyes of the people while discharging their duties and responsibilities.
In the meeting, PowerPoint presentations on the ‘observers’ guidelines for the local body elections were made by Tamune Miso, joint secretary (Home/SEC) and Habung Lampung, dy secretary (Home/SEC) respectively.
Dr Lobsang Jampa, state epidemiologist/state nodal officer for Covid-19, also explained the SoP on Covid issued by SEC in addition to existing guidelines of the State as well as Central government.
Earlier, secretary of the State Election Commission, Nyali Ete in his introductory brief explained the objective of the briefing meet and the constitutional and legal compulsions for conducting the local body elections in the state under Covid-19 situation.
As many as 35 election observers attended the meeting.
The Panchayat and Municipal elections in Arunachal Pradesh will be held simultaneously in a single phase on December 22.
