Punjab CM welcomes Centre's decision to let agitating farmers enter Delhi

Chandigarh, Nov 27 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Friday welcomed the Centre's decision to allow the agitating farmers to enter Delhi, but slammed the ML Khattar government in Haryana for its continued use of brute force to stop the ryots, even after the Union Government's conciliatory move.

Though the Centre allowed the farmers to enter the national capital to exercise their democratic right to protest, Haryana government engaged in a confrontationist approach against the peasants moving towards Delhi, said Capt Singh, condemning the Khattar government's actions.

''What's the need for such harsh measures? This barbarism needs to stop right now @mlkhattar ji,'' said the Chief Minister, flaying the vicious manner in which the Haryana government was treating the innocent and peaceful farmers.
He expressed shock at the methods used by the Khattar government in their desperate bid to stop the ryots, including destruction of public property by digging up the national highway.
''The farmers did not inflict even an iota of damage to any public property over the past three months of their protest, and here is a state government that is brazenly and shamelessly digging up roads made from public money,'' he quipped.

Captain Singh also reiterated his appeal to the Central government to initiate immediate talks, to address the peasants' concerns on the Farm Laws and resolve the simmering issue.
Having taken the first step towards finding a peaceful and amicable solution to the problem, the Centre should now move quickly towards holding further talks with the Kisan Unions, to thrash out the problem triggered by the agricultural legislations, which have threatened the lives and livelihoods of the farmers.

The Chief Minister, meanwhile, appreciated the remarkable restraint shown by the ryots in face of the Khattar government's and Haryana police's brutality.
''Their exemplary behaviour shows that farmers are not interested in confrontation, they only want to be heard, which is their constitutional right,'' he added.

Pointing out that the ryots had refused to be provoked and did not create any law and order problem, even after being subjected to teargassing and powerful sprays of water in this cold weather, Captain Singh said this showed that all the farmers desired, was to take their voice to Delhi.
The farmers were neither misguided, nor out to indulge in creating any problems for the people of India, he asserted, urging the Government of India to take cognisance of the miseries of the nation's 'annadatas' and accede to their demand for a legal provision, to assure the continuation of MSP.
