KOLKATA: From early morning Bengal witnessed partial collapse as the bandh supporters paralysed train services in several sections and even they blocked National Highway at various points. The bandh supporters who belong to different central trade unions even forcibly closed many shops and many shops and even ransacked them.
They damaged shops at Esplanade area along with New Town and also some shops at Uluberia. Some showrooms were ransacked as the supporters hurled stones.
They even allegedly looted some shops at Uluberia in Howrah. The bandh supporters damaged a NBSTC bus at Cochbehar.
Train services were disrupted in Sealdah section and stones were pelted at the passengers at Madhyamgram station. Even some railway property were damaged in Barasat section.
The bandh supporters also blocked NH at the toll plaza at Palsit and also at Mecheda.
Several stations were blocked in Howrah Burdwan section. The supporters had dropped banana leaves at some stations on the overhead wires in Canning and Lakshmikantapur sections due to which services were affected. CPM leader in the assembly Sujan Chakraborty led the blokade at Jadavpur station. In several areas the bandh supporters burnt tyres and even they deflattened tyres of vehicles to stop people from commuting. Even drivers of several state buses were forcibly taken out of the buses. The drivers at Durgapur were also assaulted.
Even in Barrackpore there was a clash between bandh supporters and police as they tried to shut down shops. They also forcibly closed down many bank branches.
