Govt enhancing infrastructure for learning: Meghalaya CM

Williamnagar (Meghalaya), Nov 26 (UNI) Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday said the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government was taking all measures to enhance infrastructure required for learning in the State.
“The government is taking necessary intervention to enhance infrastructure facilities for learning. We understand there is a challenge ahead of us but nevertheless, we are taking steps to further the opportunities for our youth. MDA Government has accorded thrust and special focus to improve the overall education sector,” he said after laying the foundation for a new college building of Williamnagar Government College in East Garo Hills district.
He said that the target for completion of the building is 2022 and the construction will start from January next year and highlighted the steps being taken by the government for improving the education sector in the state.
Informing the people about the steps taken by the government for improving the road connectivity in the state, the Chief Minister said that funds have been sanctioned for improving the roads which have been neglected for decades.
He also informed that the construction of the Tribal Research Centre will be completed by the year 2022.
Earlier, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the new building of the 42 years old Rongrenggre Model Deficit Secondary School, Williamnagar, East Garo Hills, funded under the CSR initiative of Hindustan Steelworks Corporation Limited (HSCL).
“We are indeed glad that organizations like HSCL are coming up to aid the government to support our mission to upscale education infrastructure in the State,” Sangma said.
After inaugurating the school building, worth Rs. 1.6 crore, the Chief Minister lauded the HSCL for completing the construction within a very short span of time.
Highlighting the efforts of the government to improve the education sector in the state, the chief minister said that Rs 500 crore has been earmarked for the education department in this financial year and Rs 800 crore has been received from the Central Government for Ekalavya Model Residential Schools in Meghalaya.
He also informed that Rs 200 crore special fund has also been received from the Central Government for improving the infrastructures in the education sector in the state.
The Chief Minister further informed that the scholarship for the students in the state have also been enhanced and said that the Youth Policy will be finalized by January next year to promote the skill and talent of the youth.
