K'taka HC directs Mumbai police to provide protection to Ravi pujari

Bengaluru, Nov 26 (UNI) Karnataka High Court ordered Mumbai police to take all security measures to protect the life of 53-year-old Ravi Pujari, who has been accused of being an underworld agent involved in numerous extortion and murder cases and brought to India after being extradited from Senegal in February 2019.
In addition, the court ordered Mumbai police to take him back to Bengaluru central prison.
Judge Nataraj Rangaswamy passed the interim order on Pujari’s petition challenging the order of the lower court to grant custody to the Mumbai police for its production in the Mumbai Special Court.
It was argued in the petition that the granting of his custody to the Mumbai police violated the terms of his extradition from the foreign country, as he was supposed to be presented in the cases which were part of the list attached to the extradition order.
Claiming that there was a threat to his life, the petitioner said the Mumbai Magistrates’ Court and Police could have effectively used the videoconferencing facility for his production in the Mumbai court instead of taking him in Mumbai, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The court adjourned further hearing to November 27.
