Haryana cops keep vigil, may arrest more leaders

Farmers stopped former Haryana CM O P Chautala at Khuiyan Malkana toll plaza near Dabwali
CHANDIGARH: Haryana Police is now planning to arrest more farmer leaders and file more cases against them in Ambala and Kurukshetra. Two days ahead of their ‘Dilli Chalo’ programme scheduled for November 26-27, 66 farmer leaders were detained or arrested across the state on Tuesday. The cops, however, did not act against BKU (Charuni) chief Gurnam Singh Charuni and other senior leaders of the outfit.
Charuni, accompanied by several hundred farmers, moved towards Delhi on Wednesday. After an overnight stay at Karnal, they are scheduled to move towards Delhi. Although most senior functionaries of the state remained inaccessible, it was learnt that several senior cops and local administration officials were busy persuading farmers against proceeding towards the national capital.
Sources said police will now try to stop farmers in Karnal, Panipat and Sonipat districts from moving further. The Haryana Roadways has also suspended the service to Punjab districts as a precautionary measure.
Various opposition leaders, including leader of opposition Bhupinder Sungh Hooda, HPCC president Selja, former CLP leader Kiran Choudhry and INLD leader Abhay Chautala, have flayed the BJP-JJP government over the detention of farmers.
