Now, segregate your waste, get certificate

Gurgaon: In an attempt to encourage segregation of dry, wet and hazardous/bio-medical waste at source, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has launched a campaign, the ‘tri-bin selfie drive’, in which it will issue certificates to all residents who separate their garbage.
As part of the campaign, residents can send their family’s selfies with the three dustbins they are using to segregate waste — green for wet waste, blue for dry waste and yellow for hazardous waste.
Participants can upload their entries on http://bit.ly/tribinggm. Certificates will be issued by MCG to all the residents participating in the campaign and the 20 best selfies will also be awarded, officials said.
MCG commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh said the civic body aims to raise awareness on segregating waste at the source though the campaign. “We are working with residents to segregate waste at source, and this is the best way to ensure that no waste other than inert waste ends at the landfill. MCG will issue certificates to all the responsible residents who are segregating waste,” said Singh.
The corporation’s consultant for solid waste management and Swachh Bharat Mission, Sonia Duhan, said a few societies in the city are already segregating waste into more than three categories and raising awareness about it among residents. “Societies like La Lagune and Vipul Belmonte in Sector 53 have been segregating waste in an efficient manner and have set examples for other condominiums and societies to follow,” she added.
MCG officials said it is extremely important for the city’s residents to have a clear understanding of the significance of segregating waste at the source.
