Farmers Protest Today News Updates: Heavy deployments and tight checking of vehicles at the borders today led to massive jams on roads connecting Gurugram and Delhi. ANI shared a number of pictures showing traffic congestion at Delhi-Gurugram (Haryana) border due to checking of vehicles in view of farmers’ ‘Delhi Chalo’ protest march.

Thousands of farmers from Punjab today tried to march towards Delhi but were stopped at the borders by Haryana Police. The farmers are protesting against the recently passed three farm laws, saying the acts would hurt them as they nowhere assures farmers of minimum support price or MSP.

Haryana Police used tear gas shells to disperse farmers who gathered at Shambhu border near Ambala to proceed to Delhi. Heavy security has been deployed on Delhi-Jammu highway near Karna Lake in Karnal. At the Shambhu inter-state border (Delhi-Haryana), protesting farmers broke barricades, threw some into the river in an attempt to enter the state as part of their Delhi Chalo’ march. The Police used water cannons and teargas to disperse them. Farmers and police faced off at a bridge with the Ghaggar river flowing below and tractors and trucks were lined up while people were seen waving black flags and shouting slogans.

Reacting to it, Punjab CM Amarinder Singh targeted the Haryana government saying, “Why is @mlkhattar govt in Haryana stopping the farmers from moving to Delhi? The tyrannical use of brute force against peacefully protesting farmers is totally undemocratic & unconstitutional,” he said, asserting that “the hands that feed the nation deserve to be held, not pushed aside.”
