The action programme for the release of 5G spectrum bands in Russia is being analysed by the Ministry of Defence and should receive approval by end December, reports Rossiyskaya Gazeta citing Oleg Ivanov, deputy minister at the Ministry of Digitalisation. The release of some frequencies for 5G is scheduled to start next year. The 3,400-3,800 MHz band was excluded from the plan, as it is used by the military in the country.
The release of the 700 MHz band, currently used for terrestrial broadcasting, is being considered, with possible compensation for broadcasters under discussion. The compensation could amount to RUB 2.1 billion.
The action programme should be completed by the end of 2024.
