CHANDIGARH: The police have issued a lookout circular against the government school teacher absconding since September 16 along with his nine-year-old son after allegedly murdering his wife — also a teacher — at their house in Sector 23. Mandeep Singh, 42, was employed at Government Senior Secondary School in Sector 47.
Krishan Kumar Verma, DSP, central division, said the Sector 17 police have issued a lookout circular against the accused at all airports. Cops had earlier written to Punjab Police to search canals and rivers to trace the bodies of the accused and his son. The police are regularly monitoring the bank account of Mandeep Singh, so that if he withdraws money, he can be traced.
Mandeep had fled with his two sons in his Maruti Alto car to Ludhiana. The elder one was later rescued. Police said upon checking the CCTV footage, the car was located in Punjab. The last location of the accused was traced to Sector 41 on September 16.
Sector 17 police had registered a murder and attempt to murder case against Mandeep after the body of his wife Jyoti, 40, who was also a government school teacher, was found on September 16.
The murder came to light when Ludhiana police reached the couple’s house with their eldest son and found the house locked. The accused’s son told the cops that when they left the house, his father told them that his mother was in home isolation due to Covid-19 infection. Punjab Police had then contacted Sector 17 police and entered the house after breaking the door. The cops found the body wrapped in a bedsheet.
