O2 Czech Republic has introduced to its fixed internet subscribers a new solution on its xDSL network, so-called bonding. The network upgrade enables double the previous speeds on copper lines. In more than 1.5 million households, it will be possible to provide a connection up to 100 Mbps, and 40 percent of households will be able to reach up to 250 Mbps.
The principle of bonding is simple, O2 said. The operator will bring two pairs of metal wires instead of one to the address where the customer will use fixed internet from O2, doubling the speed. In order to be able to add the speed from the first pair to the second pair of lines, it is necessary to combine these two speeds. This is ensured by a device called the Terminator, which is installed in households. Customers get it for free.
O2 Czech Republic also plans to continue the expansion of its fibre-optic network. The number of households covered with the network is planned to increase to 400,000 within the next three years.
