CHENNAI: AMMK general secretary T T V Dhinakaran on Thursday urged the Centre and the Tamil Nadu government to relax crop insurance norms to enable farmers, who could not opt for crop insurance, to avail benefits after cyclone Nivar affected their crops.
"I urge the Centre and the state to facilitate relaxation of crop insurance norms for affected farmers to adequately receive compensation for their crops. The Tamil Nadu government should also extend adequate help to farmers to retrieve their paddy crops submerged by flooding rain water," Dhinakaran said.
The Covid-19 trouble was the reason for most farmers not having undertaken crop insurance for paddy, plantain and coconut plantations, he added.
