"Matt understands both the challenges of CIOs and those they answer to," said Nutanix ANZ managing director Lee Thompson.
"That understanding, coupled with the extraordinary value we're bringing to a market in rebuild mode, is a huge boon for the entire team and our customers across the region."
Maw has more than 20 years of IT experience.
He joins Nutanix from VMware where he worked as senior manager for solution engineering.
Maw previously worked for Dimension Data as a client delivery executive and at Cisco as managing consultant.
He started on the other side of the supplier/customer fence, serving as CTO for Tatts Group (now part of Tabcorp), national IT manager at Symbion Consumer, IT manager at RSL Care, group IS operations manager at Norgine, and as a network administrator at P&H Mining Equipment.
Maw studied IT at Queensland Institute of Technology.
"Nutanix offers a completely different way of empowering businesses to use technology to drive change while letting them focus on what they're good at – something that is more important than ever before," he said.
"With cloud effectively mandated overnight, organisations can no longer afford to lose time and money on outdated infrastructure. Nutanix helps eliminate that waste and provides a pathway to optimise and monetise data, all while transitioning to hybrid cloud."
Maw's appointment follows that of Steve Coad as head of the enterprise division, and David Gage as channel director.
