Deutsche Telekom said that the centre for teacher training in mathematics (DZLM) will be integrated in the newly established department "subject-related knowledge transfer" at the Leibniz institute for pedagogy of natural sciences and mathematics (IPN) in Kiel. The IPD will establish the new department at the beginning of 2021. The DZLM was founded and has so far been financed by the Deutsche Telekom Stiftung (foundation) to develop, implement and research nationwide effective mathematics training for teachers and day-care specialists.
The new department and office of the DZLM will be located in Berlin at the Humboldt University. The DZLM is a network of nine universities under the leadership of the Humboldt University of Berlin. The Free University of Berlin, the Freiburg University of Education, the Ruhr University Bochum, the Technical University of Dortmund and the Universities of Duisburg-Essen, Osnabrueck, Paderborn and Potsdam are also part of the network. The universities of Cologne, Muenster and Siegen will join in January 2021.
In the ten years since its foundation, the DZLM has developed and disseminated more than 50 advanced training modules and twelve online self-learning platforms as Open Educational Resources. It has focused on topics such as language training in maths lessons, diagnosis and support, teaching in inclusive learning groups, and digital tools. In addition to the advanced training programmes, the DZLM has put in place research projects, in particular on learning processes for teachers in specific topics for teaching mathematics.
