Austrian regulator RTR said that the budget for supervisory activities in the field of telecommunication should increase by 1.78 percent to EUR 8.3 million in 2021 compared with EUR 8.2 million 2020. The budget for external services in particular should increase by 32.89 percent to EUR 210,000, while the staff budget should decrease by 1.96 percent to EUR 6.2 million for 2021.
The overall increase in expenditure is the result of amendments to the Telecommunication Act BGBl I 78/2018 that expand the regulatory remit, for example as a central information point for broadband coverage. This leads to higher investment in additional measures to digitise operations, for example by implementing web interfaces and connecting eRTR to other databases, the regulator said in the proposal for the 2021 budget.
RTR has now started the consultation on the budget for 2021. The current budget and other RTR resource plans are based on the legal framework in place since mid-November 2020. The draft for a reform of the Telecommunication Act has not been published yet.
