CHENNAI: In a twist to the November 11 Sowcarpet triple murder, a relative of one of the three deceased on Tuesday leaped to his death from the third floor of a Korukkupet building. Police had summoned him for questioning after one of the murder suspects accused him of sexually assaulting her.
The deceased, Vijay Kumar Goshan Lal Jain, is a cousin of Shital Kumar who along with his father Dali Chand H Jain and mother Pushpa Bai had been shot dead. Shital Kumar's estranged wife Jayamala, her brothers Kailash and Vilas and three others have been arrested for the killings. Ex-Army officer Rajiv Dubey was also nabbed after his licensed revolver was found to have been used in the killings.
On Monday night, Vijay Kumar, who was into the finance business, visited Ramesh, a relative living in the same gated community on Monday night, and spoke about Jayamala's allegation of sexual assault against him. On Tuesday, he went back to Ramesh's house in 'Q' block and jumped down. The RK Nagar police have sent the body to Stanley Hospital for postmortem. A case was registered.
Deceased man records video before death
Police said that before his death, Vijay Kumar recorded a 91-second video that was uploaded on social media by some of his friends. An officer said the video states, “I, Vijay Kumar Jain want to explain what happened to our family 10-12 days ago. My uncle, my aunt and their son Shital were killed and the six people who killed them are now coming up with wrong accusations against me and my cousin Hemant.
“Police are subjecting us to a kind of interrogation that even the six accused have not faced. The Jain community will have to rescue us. My daughter is scared something will happen to her, and she has been skipping meals for the past five days. My whole family is scared. I request everyone to come forward in our support and save our family.”
An investigating officer said Vijay Kumar was summoned for inquiry only on Tuesday and that he was not interrogated before.
