Argentinian football icon Diego Maradona passes away at the age of 60 following a heart attack on Wednesday. Reports in ESPN and CNN confirm the news.

Maradona was hospitalised after he complained of regularly being fatigued. His tests at the La Plata clinic revealed a blood clot in Maradona’s brain, which doctors later revealed was operated on successfully.

The footballing icon led the Argentinian football team to the 1986 World Cup triumph. He is famed for his ‘Goal of the century’ and hailed by many as the greatest ever.

He was currently the coach of Argentine Primera División club Gimnasia de La Plata.

The legend was in charge of the team at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa before leaving at the end of the tournament. He coached Dubai-based club Al Wasl in the UAE Pro-League for the 2011–12 season.

In 2017, Maradona became the coach of Fujairah before leaving at the end of the season. In May 2018, Maradona was announced as the new chairman of Belarusian club Dynamo Brest.

The legend’s final years were masked with controversies, but his legend inspired a generation and will always be regarded as one of the greatest footballers to have taken the pitch.
