Russian parliament looks to delay new rules domestic mobile apps

Wednesday 25 November 2020 | 16:36 CET | News

Draft legislation postponing new rules requiring the installation of local software on smartphones and other devices in Russia has been introduced to the lower chamber of parliament, reports Prime. If adopted, the legal requirement to pre-install domestic-origin software would enter into force later, from 01 April 2021, rather than the current deadline of 01 January 2021.

Earlier this week, the Russian government approved the regulation requiring applications and software of domestic origin to be pre-installed on mobile and other devices sold in the country. The list of approved software still needs to be decided by the Ministry of Digitalisation, which is accepting applications from Russian developers.
