Portugal’s tourism sector is expected to lose 60,000 jobs this year itself due to the impact of the corona virus outbreak. A recovery from this damage is still way away, said the country’s Tourism Secretary Rita Marques.
Marques said that some of Portugal’s regions need to branch out their tourism-dependent economy after the pandemic gets over. The state secretary predicted a spring back of international visits by the third quarter of 2021 that depends on the success of a COVID-19 vaccine but it could take until 2023 for everything to return to pre-pandemic record levels.
