Airport Authority of India announced that the aiport has been closed from tonight 7pm to Thursday morning 7 am on account of heavy rainfall in the city due to Nivar cyclone.
It was reported that due to the continuous rainfall the runway has been waterlogged and as a safety precaution for the passengers the decision was made. It was also feared that the hurricane winds would affect the aircraft operations.
Passengers are requested to seek information regarding on theri flights from their respective airlines.

In Chennai, Metro train service has also been halted until further notice and the last train will be operated at 7 pm tonight.
According to reports, the severity of the cyclone has increased and that it is approaching at a speed of 16km/hr.
