Computer services exports from Ireland reached EUR 111 billion in 1st-half 2020, according to the latest biannual report from Host in Ireland. The report highlights the key role of data centres during the pandemic, with these exports accounting for one quarter (26%) of all Ireland's export activity.
Data centre construction spend is expected to reach EUR 1.25 billion in 2020, rising to EUR 1.5 billion in 2021 and 222. In total, the pipeline amounts to EUR 6.7 billion in new construction in the 5-year period from 2021-2025. The report shows that there are currently 66 data centres now operational, under construction or planned in Ireland. Hyperscalers accounted for 31 of these data centres (80% of capacity), 5 are leased wholesale data centres, 15 are colocation data centres, and the remaining 15 are smaller, private facilities.
