Sacrilege case: SC junks plea to transfer case outside Punjab

New Delhi, Oct 25 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed a petition, seeking transfer of the 2015 Bathinda Guru Granth Sahib sacrilege case trial outside Punjab.

A Bench, headed by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, asserted that the Apex Court did not find any reason to transfer the trial out of the state.
However, the top court asked the trial court to ensure a free and fair trial.
Members of Dera Sacha Sauda were arrested in October, 2015, for allegedly tearing the Guru Granth Sahib and throwing the torn papers on the ground at Gurusar village in Bathinda.
They had moved the SC to transfer the case trial to another state, claiming that they would not get a fair trial in Punjab and that they were facing threats to their life in the state.
