Nivar update: Severe cyclonic storm Nivar is expected to bring heavy rainfall to Chennai when it makes landfall between Mamallapuram (which is 56 km from Chennai) in and Karaikal in today.

The Chennai airport has suspended operations in view of the Nivar. The airport authority announced on Wednesday evening that aircraft operations at the Chennai airport would remain suspended from today evening (7 pm) to tomorrow morning (7 am).
