THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said expert opinion will be sought on the reopening of higher educational institutions in the state if Covid-19 cases are coming down consistently.
“It does not mean that they will be opened soon. The pandemic is under control now and the cases have started coming down. If the situation continues like this, we can certainly look at the options for reopening colleges,” said the chief minister in his evening news conference.
The government has decided to seek expert opinion on the commencement of classes for Class X and Plus Two, for which public examinations have to be conducted. However, it is still doubtful on whether the lower classes can start functioning in this academic year, he added. .
Meanwhile, the state government has decided to give certain relaxations in the functioning of the training centres, skill development institutes and dance schools.
The state executive committee meeting of the disaster management authority on Tuesday decided to give permission for these institutions to function with a maximum capacity of 100 children. But a training hall should accommodate only 50% of the total capacity.
The relaxation has been given for the institutions like technical institutes, skill development and training institutions, private tuition centres, dance schools and computer centres.
