New Delhi, Nov 25 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and some other senior BJP leaders are likely to campaign for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections to be held on December 1.
According to BJP sources here on Wednesday, "The central BJP leaders' campaign for the GHMC polls is confirmed, the schedule of which is yet to be finalised."
Besides Mr Modi and Mr Shah, BJP national president J P Nadda, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis are expected to arrive Hyderabad to canvass for party candidates.
"BJP is seeing the GHMC polls as the crucial electoral battle before the 2023 Telangana Assembly elections and hence sending top leaders for the campaign," some political observers maintained.
"The GHMC elections are the "semifinal" before the Assembly polls in which BJP wants to forego TRS's support," the observers said.
The counting of votes for Tuesday's polls will be held on December 4.
Incidentally, on December 5, the BJP president Mr Nadda is embarking on a country-wide tour eyeing both the upcoming State Assembly elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
