BJP congratulates Mattu for being elected as Srinagar Mayor

Srinagar, Nov 25 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday congratulated Junaid Azim Mattu for being elected as the Mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and urged him to work for progress and development of the city.

“SMC has given him mandate again and Mattu will work for the progress and development of the city. The primarily aim of conducting Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections was the development, but SMC had turned into corruption hub over past few years,” BJP Kashmir Media In-charge Manzoor Bhat said.

He said from past several months, there were many complaints as SMC was headless due to which the developmental works have come to halt. “Common people were suffering, while illegal constructions continued rampant in the city that has triggered massive public outrage,” Bhat said.

He said the party urged Mattu to work for the development of the Srinagar and take forward the developmental projects that have faced halt due to corruption in SMC.

Bhat said the Mayor should focus on Srinagar’s smart city project and make it among one of the best cities in the country. “There are many issues in Srinagar including lack of parking, defunct drainage, sanitation, waterlogging and other issues which need to be addressed immediately,” he said.

“After 2014 devastating floods, many developmental projects in the city were affected and now work on these projects need to be completed on priority,” Bhat said.
