Vadodara: Anand police registered an offence against four residents of Umreth town for alleged insult to Indian national flag by distorting it.
The cops booked one Niloferbanu Farooqhussain Malek and three others under provisions of The Prevention of Insults to the National Honour Act, 1971.
“The case has been registered by Umreth police station for insult to the Indian national flag,” said Anand district superintendent of police Ajit Rajian.
Apart from Malek, one of the accused is also a Hindu. “The accused have claimed that the crescent and the star in the flag were done to make the flag more attractive,” he said.
According to the complaint registered at Umreth police station, the case was registered after cops received a tip off regarding the alleged distortion of the national flag during patrolling in the town.
