Russian minister of digitalisation Maksut Shadayev has ordered that the state-owned corporation Rostec participate in the research programme on using technology-neutral spectrum for 5G networks, reports Kommersant.
The programme is carried out by the communications R&D institute NIIR and the operator Megafon. Rostec will participate in the programme as the entity responsible for production of local 5G equipment.
NIIR plans to carry out tests in December of Dynamic Spectrum Sharing technology to look at which alternative spectrum bands could be used to deploy 5G networks based on frequencies from GSM, 3G and LTE networks. Results of the tests should be presented to the state radio frequencies commission SRFC by June 2021. Equipment from Nokia, Huawei and Ericsson is used for the tests.
