Panic in Pakistan SC after lawyer's COVID claims

Islamabad, Nov 25 (UNI) Panic gripped the Pakistan Supreme Court on Wednesday, when a lawyer present in one of the courtrooms revealed to the Judge that he was suffering from COVID-19.
The incident happened in the court of Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed, when he was hearing a case in packed Courtroom No 1 in Islamabad, the Dawn reported.
Lawyer Adnan Khan told the Chief Justice, ''I am appearing in your court, despite having corona''.
This disclosure caused alarm in the court, much to the displeasure of the Chief Justice, who reprimanded the lawyer for his callous behaviour and asked for an explanation.
''I came because an important case was being heard today of lecturers of the Higher Education [Commission],'' replied the lawyer, who was representing lecturers in the case.
He went to add that he had submitted an application to adjourn a case in a different court after testing positive for the virus, but that request was rejected. ''Therefore, I decided to show up, using that as a precedent,'' said the lawyer.
This, however, did not convince the Chief Justice, who directed the Counsel to submit his arguments in writing instead and immediately leave the courtroom.
Dr Khan obliged and subsequently left the court.
