Uruguayan Ministry of Economy and Finance issues temporary VAT relief measures for supporting tourism

The Uruguayan Ministry of Economy and Finance issued Decree No. 304, by introducing temporary VAT relief measures for supporting the tourism sector in light of the corona virus outbreak. The decree includes these measures: 1) Providing a 9 percent decrease in the VAT rate from Nov. 16, 2020, until April 4, 2021, for vehicle rentals without a driver, real estate leases for tourism, and gastronomic services furnished by the hotel and restaurant sectors; and 2) Providing a VAT concession of 7.38 percent on total transaction amounts for taxpayers under the small business regime.
