Digital Colony’s telecom infrastructure company Highline do Brasil has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Phoenix Tower do Brasil (PTB) from funds managed by Blackstone. PTB is a leading independent telecommunications infrastructure provider and a developer of small cell and distributed antenna systems in Brazil. The acquisition will add 2,500 new sites to Highline’s portfolio, significantly increasing its footprint in the region and positioning the company as one of the largest privately-owned tower and small cell companies in Brazil.
Following the transaction, Highline will own more than 3,200 sites across its portfolio. The financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
Speaking during the Teletime Tec event, the director of strategy and new business at Highline, Luiz Minoru, confirmed the company also plans to bud for Oi's tower unit. He admitted that the company is out of the race for Oi's mobile business, but confirmed that Highline is looking into InfraCo, which groups Oi’s fibre assets. The second phase of bidding for the fibre assets has been postponed to January 2021. The auction of the towers unit will take place in the coming week.
