Corporator extends monetary assistance to school van drivers

Imphal, November 23 2020: The Corporator of Imphal Municipal Corporation Ward No 18, L Inunganbi today handed over monetary assistance and other relief materials to school van drivers within the Ward, who are reeling under the brunt of COVID-19 pandemic.

Accompanied by Ward Members, Monorama RK and N Imochabi Singh, the Corporator visited the residences of the aggrieved van drivers and donated a sum of Rs 1000 each along with other essential food items such as rice, tea leaf and sugar.

L Inunganbi while sharing the hardships faced by the drivers, said that the pandemic has forced school van drivers out of work thereby leaving them helpless and threatening their survival for almost 9 months.

Stating that van drivers who are transporting school children have vital roles in National building and their role should not be undermined, she urged the State Government to initiate some welfare measures for the aggrieved van drivers.

Considering the grievances faced by the drivers and their families, she decided to extend her best support to them, she said.

She also appealed to other philanthropists to come forward to help these drivers during such crucial times.
