Netflix has announced that The Queen’s Gambit was watched by 62 million households in its first 28 days, making it the most-watched scripted limited series on Netflix.

Peter Friedlander, VP of Original Series at Netflix, has shared some more details about the success of The Queen’s Gambit. The limited series has an extraordinary global reach and it was a part of Netflix’s Top 10 list in 92 countries. The show has also ranked No. 1 on the list in 63 countries including the UK, Argentina, Israel, and South Africa.
The success of the limited series had a major impact on the world of chess. The Queen’s Gambit novel is now on The New York Times bestseller list almost 37 years after its release. Google search queries about chess have doubled and searches for “how to play chess” have hit a nine-year peak. Inquiries for chess sets on eBay have increased by 250% and the number of new players on Chess.com have increased five fold.
