Visakhapatnam: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has demanded the state government to immediately withdraw the GOs issued to hike property tax and water charges in all municipalities and corporations in the state as it would place a heavy burden on the people.

The decision of the government allows a 15 per cent hike in drinking water charges annually which would mean that every household should pay Rs.100 to Rs.350 and apartment dwellers Rs.30 to Rs.50 for every kilolitre of water additionally, CPM city secretary B. Gangarao pointed out.

He also noted that the government had changed assessment of property tax on basis on annual rental value to land value which would result in increase by 100 per cent to 400 per cent. The state government had accepted the reforms proposed by the BJP government at the Centre to break the back of the people and both the BJP and the YSR Congress Party would pay a heavy price for this, he said.
