Meghalaya CM briefs PM on COVID-19 status in State

Shillong, Nov 24 (UNI) Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, along with State Health
and Family Welfare Minister, Alexander Laloo Hek and senior officials briefed Prime Minister
Narendra Modi on the latest COVID-19 related status in the State during a video-conference
that the Prime Minister had with Chief Ministers across the country on Tuesday.
“The Prime Minister asked the states to submit their plans for distribution of COVID-19
vaccine and asked them to be prepared,” an official source said.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya registered 57 new COVID-19 cases, taking the active count to 893,
even as 59 recoveries took the number of persons who recovered from the viral disease to
10,451 on Tuesday.
Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War said that the fresh COVID-19 cases detected
included 32 in East Khasi Hills district, nine in West Garo Hills district, five in South West Garo
Hills district, four in South Garo Hills district,three in West Jaintia
Hills district,two in East Garo Hills district and one each in North Garo Hills district and
Ri-Bhoi district.
With 436 active COVID-19 positive cases, East Khasi Hills, including Shillong is the most
affected district in the State, followed by West Garo Hills district with 238 active cases.
East Khasi Hills district registered 29 more recoveries from the viral infection on Tuesday,
followed by West Jaintia Hills district with eight, East Garo Hills district with seven, South Garo
Hills district and West Garo Hills district five each, three in East Jaintia Hills district and one
each in North Garo Hills district and South West Garo Hills district.
Meanwhile, of the 2,32,602 persons tested for COVID-19 in the State till date, 2,21,148
have tested negative, even as 297 persons are in institutional quarantine and 446 are in home
isolation.
On the latest count, 62,509 persons from outside have returned to the State, which had 33 containment zones.
So far, Meghalaya has recorded 11454 confirmed Covid-19 cases, including 110 deaths
with 0.96 case fatality rate, 893 active cases and 10451 recoveries.
On the other hand, the Headquarters Directorate Assam Rifles organized a plasma donation screening camp at Laitkor here today in collaboration with North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS).

Bhattacharyya congratulated and encouraged all the donors, with the latter highlighting
the importance of plasma donation, which will save the lives of many affected personnel.
“Blood samples of 100 Assam Rifles personnel who volunteered for screening will be tested
at NEGRIHMS to access their eligibility for plasma donation,” an official said.
