In a shocking revelation, the name of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah’s has surfaced in the illegal land mutations case under the Roshni Act scheme. Abdullah has said it is another ploy to disturb him.
Reacting to his name surfacing in the Roshni scam list made public by the J&K administration, Farooq Abdullah said, “Not only my house, but there are also hundreds of others in the area. I will not react to this as they just want to disturb Farooq Abdullah. Let them do it."
NC leader Devender Rana said, “The matter is sub-judice. Yes, this law was enacted by Farooq Abdullah government in 2001, but it was amended later by other governments. We are not blaming the other governments as this is a sub-judice matter. NC office is built on a land which we got on lease and it was regularised under the Roshni Act. There has been no wrongdoing. But let the CBI investigate and the court pronounce its verdict. We will abide by the court`s order.”
The Jammu and Kashmir High Court recently ordered a CBI probe into a case of massive encroachment of government land under the Roshni scheme.
The CBI has registered three separate cases for an alleged land grab in Jammu and Kashmir in collusion with government officials, in which a secretary-ranked officer at the Centre is also under scanner.
It has been alleged that the land grabbing by undeserving elements defeated the purpose of Jammu and Kashmir State Lands (vesting of ownership rights to the Occupants) Act, 2001 aimed at the generation of revenue for undertaking development works.
