India has crossed COP 21 renewable energy capacity installation target: RK Singh
India has not only already achieved the renewable energy capacity installation target of COP 21 but has even crossed it with the generation of 1,90,000 MW of power against the target of 1,75,000 MW of installed renewable energy.
Union Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy RK Singh said while talking to India’s Public Broadcaster before the start of the 3rd Global RE-INVEST Renewable Energy Investors Meet & Expo. The meet organized by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, will be held from 26 – 28 November 2020 on a Virtual Platform.
According to Prasar Bharati News Service, the minister notes that “The environment has emerged as a major concern for the world. Every country has realized that there has to be a concerted move on the part of the world community to reduce the carbon footprint to reduce global warming by two degrees.
We had discussions at the Conference of Parties in Paris, and thereafter there is going to be another conference with all the other countries on the issue of environment and global warming.”
He points out that “The world has witnessed India’s energy transition, from fossil fuel to green energy. The world has decided to cut down the use of fossil fuels so that the carbon load on the environment can be reduced.”
