MEERUT: A baby girl, most likely a few days old, wrapped in plastic and kept in gunny bags was abandoned on the road in Meerut's Partapur area in IP on Monday evening. She was later rescued by onlookers who heard her cries and found the baby abandoned on the road with stray dogs lurking around.
Later, local Partapur police station in Meerut was alerted and the baby girl was admitted to district women hospital where she is under observation and her condition is claimed to be stable.
"Her condition is stable. We have checked the heart rate, oxygen level and other vital parameters. They are normal and according to that of a newborn," Vivek Chaudhary, a doctor at the hospital said.
The video of onlookers rescuing the baby girl from the gunny bags was also shared on Twitter and Facebook which has gone viral. The video evoked sharp responses from the users who unequivocally condemned the act of abandoning the baby on the road.
Several requests of adoption have also started pouring in with many willing to reach out to the district administration in Meerut to enquire on the legal and official formalities to adopt her.
