Arch political rivals announce three-day mourning at Tarun Gogoi’s death

Guwahati, Nov 24 (UNI) As a mark of respect for former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi, who died here yesterday, arch political rivals BJP as well as Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) have announced three day mourning for the veteran Congressman.
The Assam government has also declared three days state mourning as a token of respect for the deceased leader.
The national flag shall be at half mast and all government programmes have been cancelled for the next three days, beginning today, as announced by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal last evening.
The Congress will be flying its party flag in half mast, besides three days of mourning.
In a display of respect for the veteran politician, even rival parties have suspended their activities for three days from today.
The BJP and its coalition partner here, AGP, have both announced three days of mourning.
During the period, the parties will also refrain from any election campaign in Bodoland Territorial Council areas, where polls are due in December.
Gogoi, who was the longest serving chief minister of the state and helmed the Congress government for three consecutive terms from 2001, died due to multiple organ failure after developing post-COVID complications at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital here yesterday.
