Tarun Gogoi 'visits' home the last time

Guwahati, Nov 24 (UNI) Former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi came to his home for the last time today when his mortal remains were brought to his official quarter here.
The body of Gogoi, which was kept overnight at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), was brought to his official residence at the Minister's Colony here this morning.
Gogoi had died at the age of 84 years at the GMCH yesterday due to multiple organ failure caused by post-COVID complications.
Senior Congress leaders carried the coffin of Gogoi, along with his son Gaurav as people cutting across political parties and general people came out to pay their last respect to the dead leader.
Gogoi's wife Dolly Gogoi sat on a chair near her husband's body as people laid wreaths on the coffin.
Other family members, including Gaurav's wife and infant son, and Gogoi's daughter, stood by his body at the official residence.
His body was taken to the state secretariat where all officials and staff, led by Chief Secretary Jishnu Barua and DGP Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta, paid their last respects.
Tributes were also paid at the state Congress headquarter, Rajiv Bhawan, from where the cortege moved to Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra here.
The body will be laid in state at Kalakshetra tomorrow for the people to pay their respects.
The funeral will be performed in Guwahati, though the place has not been finalised yet.
