Railway Manager Vivek Kumar Gupta honored by giving certificates, shawl, and coconut on the 100th birthday of Keshav Narhar Bapat, retired guard of Bhusaval division of Central Railway. Apart from this, the Railways also decided to double Bapat's pension.
Bapat, who hails from Bhusaval, Maharashtra after a stint in the army, joined the Great Indian Peninsular Railway (GIPR) in 1951, now called Central Railway. According to the Indian Railways, he retired about 42 years ago.
CR Public Relations Officer Shivaji Sutar said on Monday that he turned 100 on November 21 and the Central Railway has now decided to double his pension amount from this month.
Sutar said that when our personnel department officials reached Bapat's house to wish him on his 100th birthday, his family members were surprised and he thanked us.
Officials said that Bapat's family members told him that he was in the army before joining the GIPR. He fought in World War II and went to many countries during the fighting. Officials said that after taking voluntary retirement from the army, he joined the railway, where he worked as a train guard.
