BENGALURU: The depression over southest Bay of Bengal is set to form into a cyclone, Nivar, which is expected to make a landfall between Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry coast on November 25.
South-interior Karnataka is likely to receive scattered to heavy rainfall on November 24 due to this. A yellow alert has been issued in Bengaluru and other surrounding districts as heavy to very heavy rain can be expected on November 25 and 26. The other districts include Kolar, Chikkaballapura, Ramnagara, Tumakuru, Mandya and Chamrajanagar.
CS Patil, director of IMD, said: “Cyclones are very common at this time of the year. November end to mid-December is when most cyclones are formed.” There is another cyclone in Arabian Sea but it will not make landfall.
Over the next three days, Bengaluru can expect thundershowers accompanied by gusty wind.
