Portugal will offer an 80 percent discount on frequencies in the 700 MHz and 3.6 GHz bands that will be available in the 5G auction, for the initial duration of their rights of use, according to a government decree, reports Lusa. The Ministry for Infrastructure said that the government is adapting the pricing to the high investment that implementing 5G in the country will require.
The aim is also to encourage the development of the technology, as well as stimulate the rapid coverage of places of public interest, such as educational establishments. The migration of the 700 MHz band, currently used for DTT, is under way after being suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
