India IT spending to return to growth, jump 6% in 2021

Tuesday 24 November 2020 | 10:15 CET | News
IT spending in India will reach a total USD 81.9 billion in 2021, which represents an increase of 6 percent from 2020, according to a report from Gartner. IT spending in 2020 is expected to total USD 79.3 billion, down 8.4 percent from 2019.

The report further indicates that, this year, the devices and data center systems segments saw the steepest declines, as spending plunged 26 percent and 1.2 percent, respectively. Contrary to other markets where spending declined across all segments, CIOs in India continued to spend on enterprise software, IT services and communication services in 2020. These segments are expected to grow 7 percent, 3.7 percent and 4.9 percent, respectively.

In 2021, report authors believe that IT spending will return to growth, as CIOs start positioning IT as not just a growth enabler, but a ‘survival necessary’ strategy. While all segments will experience an increase in spending, the enterprise software segment is forecast to achieve the highest growth of 13.6 percent, followed by data center systems at 8.3 percent.
