Jamia professor's name in the list of Highly Cited Researchers

NEW DELHI: Professor Imran Ali of the Department of Chemistry, Jamia Millia Islamia has got his name in the Highly Cited Researchers (HCR) 2020 list released by the USA's Web of Science, Clarivate Plc.

The professor was earlier adjudged the number one position among scientists in India and 24th in the World in the field of Analytical Chemistry by a group of scientists from the University of Stanford, USA.

HCR 2020 list identifies researchers who “demonstrated a significant influence in their chosen field or fields through the publication of multiple highly cited papers during the last decade.” Their names are drawn from the publications that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and publication year in the Web of Science citation index, according to Clarivate Plc.

The list includes 6,167 researchers from 60 different countries and includes 26 Nobel laureates, including three announced this year.

Ali has high Google citations of 25,500 with his primary research goals on Environmental, Analytical, Organic, and Water Chemistry.


“He is a world-recognized academician and researcher with more than 450 publications including patents, books, several book chapters, research papers, technical reports and conference presentations. And he is the pioneer to highlight the importance of the chirality concept in the pollutants i.e. study of the chiral pollutants,” Jamia stated in a press statement.


Commenting on Ali, Jamia Vice-Chancellor Najma Akhtar said that because of his name in the list “the name of Jamia Millia Islamia has been included among the world’s outstanding Institutions and Universities. Jamia is proud to be associated with a scientist of this repute. I hope he will continue to inspire young lives in the university and the world.”
