Kerala hits 5 lakh in recoveries, test positivity rate at 10.5%

THITUVANANTHAPURAM: The state has reported over five lakh recoveries from Covid-19 to date. On Monday, 5,425 patients were cured taking the tally to 5,00,089.
Meanwhile, with 3,757 more turning positive from 35,659 samples tested in 24 hours, the positivity rate has hit 10.5%. The infected count in the state to date is 5,66,452, of which 64,166 remain under treatment.
Among the fresh cases, 3,681 were infected through local contacts while the sources were unknown in 377 others. Besides 76 returnees that were confirmed with the virus on Monday, 32 healthcare personnel were also infected.
The toll has reached 2,072 after 22 recent deaths were confirmed as Covid-related. As of Monday, 862 infected people are admitted in ICUs and 214 are on ventilator support.
Malappuram reported the highest number of cases, 1,023 followed by Kozhikode, 514, Palakkad, 331, Ernakulam, 325, Kottayam, 279, Thrissur, 278, Alappuzha, 259, Thiruvananthapuram, 229, Kollam, 198, Kannur, 144, Pathanamthitta, 57, Idukki, 49, Wayanad, 39 and Kasaragod, 32.
There are 3,14,543 under isolation in the state, including 2,98,395 under home or institutional quarantine and 16,148 in hospitals. On Monday, 1,551 hospital admissions were reported.
Four more hotspots were demarcated in Kottayam, Ernakulam, Palakkad and Kasaragod districts and seven areas were excluded taking the number of hotspots in the state to 556.
