Please Explain podcast: The future of hotel quarantine and Australia's vaccine hopes

One of Australia’s top infection-control experts has joined increasing calls for COVID-19 quarantine to be taken to regional facilities after the virus escaped hotels in Melbourne and Adelaide.

While Moderna and Pfizer vaccine trials are showing encouraging results in America, millions of taxpayer dollars have been spent on dozens of Australian clinical trials that have largely failed to produce new knowledge.

Researchers say a lack of national leadership meant far too many clinical trials were set up for a range of potential COVID-19 drugs which were left to compete for a limited pool of patients.
