Sea lion found lounging in Mini dealership lot

Marine-life experts rescued a sea lion found wandering the aisles of a Mini dealership lot in California.

They think it showed up at Mini of Marin — going from San Francisco Bay, across a nearby marsh and over a busy street — while searching for food, not a new set of wheels.

The dealership, located 8 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge, named its unusual visitor Mini. The Marine Mammal Center took Mini to its hospital in nearby Sausalito to be rehabilitated for eventual release back to the wild.

The animal, an adult female, was "in excellent body condition" aside from joint arthritis in one flipper, the center said.

"Mini has made great early progress during her rehabilitation and we're encouraged by her energetic demeanor and active eating skills," the center's medical director, Dr. Cara Field, said in a statement. "Once this animal's rear flipper heals and bloodwork shows no signs of ill health, our team will return this sea lion back to her ocean home."
